7 Reasons Why Renting A Car Is The Best Option For A Family Trip

There is no doubt that when you go on a holiday you want to enjoy yourself, right? Is it possible to rent a car and still enjoy your trip on a reduced budget, yes it is!

The idea of renting a car for your holiday trip is often ignored by many families because of the costs involved. Sure, you have to allocate a little more cash to hire a car for your holiday but it is worthwhile looking at the benefits you will enjoy so you can have a balanced view.

  • Why fly? When you look at the cost of flying between capital cities for example it can be much cheaper to hire a vehicle and enjoy a family trip together. You can have a lot of fun planning a road trip with your family even if it lasts only a couple of days. You will also enjoy the countryside and some families really enjoyed playing those road trip games from her childhood.
  • What about a one-way trip? Have you ever considered flying one leader of your journey and then driving the other? This is another great way of saving costs especially taking into account expensive airfares that families have to pay to travel together.
  • It's too expensive. This is a fallacy which can be put to bed very early on. Many car rental companies have special deals, especially for one-way journeys which more than compete with other forms of travel, particularly flying. You can often negotiate excellent deals by paying in advance and booking on the Internet.
  • Family fun? There is no doubt that a road trip can be a challenging experience for some families. But if you break up your journey with regular stops to visit places of interest, and learn to take a relaxed attitude, you'll be surprised how much a family road trip can be a bonding experience.
  • New places to see. It's amazing just how much you miss when you fly. Taking a journey through some beautiful countryside and stopping off at interesting places along the way can only be educational, it is also great fun. You can find interesting places to visit on your return journey, learn a little history, and entertain your friends with photographs of your journey.
  • The luxury of it all. Imagine how much you will enjoy driving a near new vehicle and enjoying all the latest whiz-bang high-tech inclusions that you don't have on your own vehicle. It's a great way to travel in a little bit of luxury if you choose or debate transmission, leather seating and high-tech audio systems. A rental car gives you the opportunity to do this so you can really on your journey from beginning to end. For the kids, you can even opt for DVD screens in the rear seats so they can distract themselves a longer journey and leave you to enjoy yourself.
  • Safety. A rental car offers a much safer option than taking your own vehicle. You will have the peace of mind knowing that the vehicle is mechanically perfect and in the event of any breakdowns you are guaranteed a free replacement vehicle.

So next time you're planning a holiday why not consider car hire as an alternative way to really

What are some day trips to take this summer in the lower hudson valley of NY?

We have 2 kids both under 11. Each year we go to Disney and its getting a little "old". Instead of a "family trip" my hubby wants to take a few day trips this summer.(or even a long weekend). We are pretty close to the Jersey border and very close to Manhattan. We also wouldn't mind traveling upstate a bit. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might interest us and especially the kids?

My brother lives in the area and talks alot about the finger lakes region. He says there is all sorts of outdoor recreational stuff to do there, including wineries for the adults. He likes to ride horses, jetski, boating, camping, etc...

Check it out.

Description

With generous splashes of popular culture and human interest, the NPR Road Trips series introduces you not only to far-off locations and unusual destinations, but to the people who inhabit them—and seek them out. Each story focuses on real locations, real people, and real history in the thought-provoking, imaginative and entertaining way you’ve come to expect from NPR.We all have memories of family vacations—some successful, some less so, and some gone terribly awry. When it comes to reporting colorful, compelling tales of family vacations, no one does it better than National Public Radio. Originally heard on All Things Considered and Morning Edition, the stories gathered here are entertaining, provocative and moving. Like Laura Lorson’s “Hard-Earned Lessons from the Family Road Trip,” in which she recalls endless hours in a hot car, eating junk food and listening to AM radio. And “Setting Sail with Family, Imperfections in Tow,” Marion Winik’s account of a not-so-perfect family reunion at sea. And “Family Camping,” in which commentator Joel Achenbach points out that camping is a serious sport. NPR knows that everyone has a dream vacation, but many of us are settling for economic-reality vacations. So Tom Goldman asks, “Who Needs a Fancy Cruise If You’ve Got Inner Tubes?” And when Robert Smith learns the price of Broadway tickets to The Little Mermaid ($121 each!), he takes a more frugal route, piling the family into his Honda Civic and heading to the drive-in. Warmly remembered, richly detailed, these stories invite you to share in the journey of others—and may inspire you to plan your own.

Description

Every year, hundreds of adoptive families embark on homeland trips to China and other countries. Homeland trips offer great opportunities for helping adopted children develop a coherent narrative that makes sense of their complicated beginnings. Although the trip can be a joyful experience, it can also raise many challenges. The chapters of this book by Joyce Maguire Pavao, Jane Brown, Jane Leidtke, Rose Lewis, and many others offer the engaging perspectives of adoptive parents, professionals, researchers, and, most importantly, adopted children themselves. Together, they comprise a unique, invaluable resource that will help families prepare for a homeland trip, make decisions about how to travel, anticipate what they might experience in China, and meaningfully integrate events and emotions after arriving back home. From Home to Homeland is for all internationally adoptive families considering a homeland trip or figuring out how to best make sense of a trip after returning home.

Description

Despite all the concrete and crowds, Tokyo can be a great place for kids. Scores of parks, museums, and imaginative play spots dot the city, at prices that won't send parents into sticker shock. But for newcomers to Tokyo's bewildering urban sprawl, these hidden gems can be hard to find. Kids' Trips in Tokyo is the answer to every foreign parent's prayers. No Disneyland or Tokyo Tower here-each chapter is a full day's outing that might include anything from a tour through a samurai mansion to an ice cream treat made fresh at a working dairy. Kid-tested and parent-approved, every tour includes complete information on transportation, eating options, schedules, and pit stops. It's a sampling of the very best Tokyo has to offer young minds and active bodies, with sensitive attention paid to the complications posed by language and culture barriers. From interactive exhibits that teach kids about Tokyo's history to wildlife sanctuaries that will let them escape the city altogether, Kids' Trips is a treasure trove of creative ideas for parents to enjoy with their children ... or even without.
