February Cruise Deals

Hawaii ... cruise or just a trip?
Okay we're coming to Hawaii in my dads 50th birthday (not in January, but the next). We want to start planning everything so that when you get your bonus we can set aside money in February to book our trip. My dad comes to Hawaii every couple of years, because my uncle is on the PGA Tour and play looks. My mom usually goes with my Dad and my brothers and I have been twice. Ok so heres the deal .. we have friends and family who want to come. You've probably 10-14 adults, and probably around the same number of children, if not more. My father wants to take a cruise around the islands, because we've never done and we thought it would be good for kids can do what they want. (the oldest is 20 and the youngest is 9). However, some people think it would be easier to hang on the island and rent a place. I some suggestions from people who have done one or the other. I really just want to know about the cruise. So what should we do? Thank you!
This choice depends on what is most important to you for this trip. If your main goal is to hang around and relax in the large family group, after a cruise simplifies everything. But if your main goal is to see most of Hawaii as possible, then a cruise severely limits the amount of time you get to spend exploring the islands, since losing time coming and going of the ship and having to be back on the boat each evening in time for dinner or for output to the next port.
