Israel - God Gave You The Land!!!

Keeping kosher while traveling offers many challenges. If you live in a city with a large Jewish population is likely to have used a variety of restaurants Kosher certificates are available. This selection of reliable Kosher restaurants may decrease dramatically when traveling away from home. In such cases, questions may arise on how to keep kosher while traveling and how to select a reliable restaurant away from home. Many people mistakenly believe that the restaurants 'vegetarian' or "vegan" calls are acceptable alternatives to the real kosher establishments - a dangerous myth.

Salad could be less than Kosher Pork

Believe it or not eat a simple salad into a kosher restaurant could not be worse than eating a slice of ham! From a standpoint of law Jewish (Halacha) the prohibition of eating insects is more stringent than eating pork! In order to be kosher salad need been thoroughly checked by insects, the requirement that the basic techniques of washing facilities in virtually all non-kosher food does not comply. There are certain pre-packaged salad products who are certified as free of errors, however, before biting into the salad on your next cruise be sure to ask to see the package to confirm or not the lettuce comes from a reliable source. Once you have determined that the lettuce is free of errors, make sure it is served on a cold and clean (or disposable) the place and that no "strong" foods such as onions, radishes, lemon, etc. have been added from presenting other problems that could cause actual kashrut TREIF salad without faults!

Dressings also pose problems. For example, dressing or parve is made from milk? "The preparation has an acceptable kosher certification (hashgacha)? Other considerations also made fruits and vegetables come from Israel? Such imports could pose problems related to the tithe, as an example. It is the restaurant non-kosher wine or flavor oils?

Café

The popularity of coffee poses unique concerns for the kosher traveler. Restaurants as Starbucks offers a mix of both kosher and non kosher products, which are not clearly identified. In general, tasteless coffee (regular or decaf) is acceptable. In these cases, the drink must be in a disposable cup and must not come in contact with silverware (stir the coffee with something disposable). In the United States one can add to your coffee (Assuming you do not have Chalav Yisrael).

Flavored coffee pose their own problems. Many sites use non-kosher coffee flavoring syrups or powders. Before add flavor to your coffee be sure to examine the package to ensure that it is kosher. Keep in mind that just because you examine the package once, you need to do so ever since the end of many restaurants change brands without notifying customers.

The bottom line when it comes to ordering coffee as a facility without supervision is that one can buy regular coffee without hasgacha if they are careful to check all added ingredients, and using disposable cups and utensils.

A word of caution

Even with the indulgences previously and information is extremely important that you consult your own competent Orthodox Rabbi for specific instructions. Not everyone has the same or lenience halachic decisions and therefore have to ask questions of their rav before the purchase of a facility unattended. The information is presented as a general guide and introduction to the concerns of the Traveler kosher and should not be taken as a halachic advice.
