A Walk Through Westwood (REPOST)

2008 Group of Carnival Cruise Report

The cruise industry in the UK has taken the best part of 50 years to reach the milestone of 1 million passengers, but now, with such strong growth, which is expected to take 8 years to hit 2 million.

This is just one of the fascinating revelations Report 2008 published in the cruise which was compiled by the Carnival Group UK earlier this month. The report summarizes current trends in the cruise, as well as prospective of market forecasts until 2020.

Interestingly, the report suggests that the future of cruising on this side of the Atlantic it looks good, with most the 44 new ships, ready to be built in the next 5 years sailing with European brands. With an estimated 5 million UK passengers in 2020, this will be a increase much needed capacity.

These figures show great confidence in the cruise market in the UK and is good news for the Carnival group, something monopolize property market with P & O Cruises, Ocean Village, Cunard, Yachts of Seabourn and Princess Cruises.

Carnival UK Group - 2007 Figures

• 2007 have shown an impressive increase of 18% of UK passengers the choice of sailing with Princess Cruises, thus partly due to an extended season of departures Southampton on board the Sea Princess popular, along with the deployment of an additional 2 ships to serve Europe.

• Ocean Village continued its success in attracting informal cruise, as well as maintaining its impressive rate of first-time cruiser, with about 50% of its passengers fit into this category.

• P & O Cruises reflects the passenger figures in 2006, but it does confirm the heavy interest in new construction - Ventura - sail this year, which is fixed to increase the capacity of P & O by 22%.

• Cunard saw a great demand from UK passengers especially in its transatlantic crossings Queen Mary 2, with North American passengers being outnumbered by the British.

• Finally, Seabourn yachts, catering for the ultra luxury end of the cruise market, confirmed there was an increased demand for their product.

Looking ahead, host David Dingle, director Carnival UK executive, reported that we expect to cruise to the head in a much healthier direction, with a focus on spas and fitness and restaurants more sophisticated, aiming to eliminate some of the negative images of cruise.
We can also expect to see advanced technology features such as interactive digital television in the cabins, facilities for text messaging, and plasma screens in cinemas to show major sporting events.

Predictions 2020

Let's take a step back in time to 1995. P & O Cruises, Oriana proudly introduced as largest cruise ship in the UK into a more modest 69,000 tons. This was seen as a breakthrough in the industry, many believed it was too bold and wondered if he could never fill. 13 years have seen an incredible development in the market, not only in size and capacity of vessels, but the innovations onboard. Who would thought to see the ice rinks, bowling alleys, and even quadrilaterals on board?

Just look at that next year see the beginning of the future of cruising, with the introduction of Project Genesis, Royal Caribbean, which will ship a record 220,000 tons last minute, with a capacity for 5,000 passengers. That alone is hard to imagine, so what we see happening in the next 12 years?

Well, here is the good news, according to Peter Shanks, Carnival UKs commercial director, we can say goodbye to the individual benefits and hope to vessels that have characteristics specific and individual cabins that can be sold for the same price per person double occupancy. He also predicts a revival of ocean liners, as it will become in the most relaxing way to cross the Atlantic and cruise ships being built differently to allow "weather-resistant cruise. "He said," The process has already begun in the Mediterranean, but in 2020, the development of many more time with all vessels greater stability and range entertainment facilities will make it viable bad weather in winter cruise and many more places "

Further positive predictions were presented by David Dingle, who believes that by the year 2020, inside the ship will become a thing of the past as balcony cabins as standard. He further adds that cruise ships is likely to be fed differently, "It could be biofuels, natural gas could be liquefied, which should have worked the best way to marry with environmental issues with the optimal design for ships to operate efficiently.

Therefore, better boats, balconies, plus and minus environmental damage sounds pretty good, but what about the onboard innovations within 12 years? What can we really expect from our experience Cruising?

Unfortunately the report does not explore the area, however, Nigel Esdale, P & O managing director predicted future ships would not be built in the style bigger and better than is the trend now, "I do not believe that ships have to be larger than the size of 2,000 to 3,000 passengers already starting to dominate the market here in 2008, but there will be plenty more of them and can vary a lot more in the style and the facilities on board "

So instead of seeking a future filled with larger boats with mind blowing innovations, perhaps the market developments in a more subtle, with emphasis on high quality restaurants, entertainment and itineraries, making the product of ultimate luxury cruising.
