Baby Boomers Discover Cruises

The Baby Boomers are very different from other cruise passengers? According to executives of many lines cruise this group of people has probably created programming changes more than any other cruise passengers from Noah's Ark. The same group that cell cellular events, BMW and flat screen TV is a cultural phenomenon is having a strong impact of how cruise lines go to market.

At a conference recent industry sponsored by Cruise Lines International Association, Marketing Chairman Dan Hanrahan (who is also president of Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Cruises) noted that the lifestyle and interests of baby boomers has led to some unique new experiences on board for all passengers.

Baby Boomers, he said, tend to accumulate experience as they grow against physical possessions. So computer classes are often more popular than Bingo.

At home, busy boomers eat more often and therefore find a greater variety of dining experiences on board a cruise ship. This has led to a movement of one or two main dining rooms with fixed seating times more flexible approach of the alternative restaurants feel of a good restaurant at home. Flexibility dining times has led to a change in the old system of first and second seat that has been around for 40 years. A cruise line, NCL launched the concept completely Freestyle Cruising when introduced some years ago and their new boats with up to 10 restaurants proclaim the come-when-and-who-you-choose the option. Most other Current cruise lines offer a more limited version of this concept, ranging from Princess Cruises at any time dining for Holland America recently announced As You Wish program of empty seats in a section of their main dining rooms. Along with the dining hours and options, selections healthier lifestyle menus cruise including spa cuisine has been a growing trend.

Speaking of spas, cruise ships have witnessed a transformation from a small sauna and a massage table to develop complex offering everything from the thalassotherapy pool, hot stone massage. Onboard gyms have followed that trend with most vessels to devote thousands of square feet and coveted ocean view room with their exercise facilities.

On land, the boomers are looking for tours more action-oriented despite soft adventure is the key here. They want adventure, but in a comfortable environment. Cruise lines call Culture in comfort. Forget the travel of buses, on today's cruise ships are more likely to find rafting on the river in a cave or a volcano bike purchase T-shirts at a local store.

The cruise casinos have evolved from afterthoughts to the carefully planned and important centers of revenue. The golden rule is the largest ship, the largest casino. Notable exceptions are the Disney Cruise Lines (now an option) and NCL America (Hawaii law) ships that not all casinos offer. But in the rest, you can find everything from the most popular spaces of Texas Hold 'Em poker.

Of course, Boomers need to be connected, so Internet cafes on the boats are an important asset for them. And while some of us do not particularly like this idea, cell cell phones are beginning to work at sea and in ports where no service. Busy Boomers are used to instant gratification in the world of communications and hopefully this will bring more cruise vacation.

And last but not least are the trends in music from boom generation. They grew up in the jazz, bluegrass and rock and roll. Cruise lines take this into account in the planning and selection of musical groups and live shows. In the minds of these travelers the rap all that matters is probably a seaweed wrap at the spa!

See you on board.

How do I get a job working on Azamara Cruise Ships?

I've yahooed and googled and I can only find a site that handles applications for them, but I'm not sure if that is really the best rout to take. I would like to save money for law school and this is the best way I can think of plus it would be amazing to see the world!

You need to go to the cruise line web sites. There you will find a link to jobs, employment, human resources or some such link that will give you information about their positions.

DO NOT use any other web sites that require you to pay a fee to register or get job information or referrals. Some cruise line sites may have current vacancies they are recruiting for.

Royal Caribbean cruise line is a the parent cruise company and partner with Azamara and also Celebrity Cruise line. So contacting RC will likely also get you leads to all of these. Royal Caribbean has very good information about its positions on its web sites but they also use hiring partners that are located at various places around the world..

So if you go to RC web site first you will know what most ships have. Then if you have further questions you should write a letter to the cruise line and ask them how and where to apply with their hiring partners; they will respond.

America’s #1 bestselling travel series Written by more than 175 outspoken travelers around the globe, Frommer’s Complete Guides help travelers experience places the way locals do. More annually updated guides than any other series 16-page color section and foldout map in all annual guides Outspoken opinions, exact prices, and suggested itineraries Dozens of detailed maps in an easy-to-read, two-color design A cruise is a complete vacation, so it's important that you choose the one that's right for you. Frommer's Cruises & Ports of Call 2009 is the most user-friendly, opinionated, and comprehensive guide you can buy before you set sail. We provide in-depth coverage on cruises departing from U.S. ports to the Caribbean, Alaska, Mexico, Bermuda, and Canada. Unlike rating systems used in other guides, our system is simple. We break down the essential elements of a cruise experience (dining, activities, children's activities, entertainment, service, overall enjoyment, and overall value), and rate them from "poor" to "outstanding." Photos of each ship combine with the text to give a better sense of the very real differences among the various lines. Most important, this is the only cruise guide that provides the real prices people pay for cruises, not just the rack rates. Other guides tell you that a seven-night cruise aboard Holland America’s Noordam costs $2,639. You can pay that if you want to, but only Frommer's tells you that the same cruise is selling for $899. We give both the rack rates and the discount price for every cruise we review. This feature alone makes Frommer's Cruises and Ports of Call by far the most valuable trip-planning book among cruise guides. Our authors, noted cruise experts who've personally checked out every ship sailing in and around North America, offer candid and unbiased opinions on them all. They are completely up to date, with all the latest developments and the newest ships. You'll also get complete coverage of the major port destinations, with advice on how to spend your limited time ashore.

Those of my readers who happen to be well acquainted with Weymouth, will also be assuredly acquainted with a certain lane, known as Buxton's Lane, branching off to the right from the high-road at Rodwell, and connecting that suburb with the picturesque little village of Wyke. I make this assertion with the most perfect confidence, because Buxton's Lane happens to afford one of the most charming walks in that charming neighbourhood; and no one can well be a sojourner for any length of time in Weymouth without discovering this fact for him or herself, either through inquiry or by means of personal exploration.
